Kids canopy beds are a refreshing way to brighten up your child's bedroom and give them a space of their own to play in. We all need a little time out from our beloved children sometimes and giving them the fun of a themed bedroom means they can go off on their own or with their friends and play make believe to their hearts content. They don't need much to keep them occupied thanks to their wonderful imaginations, so do them and yourselves a favour and take a moment to consider what sort of canopy bed might trigger some fun and games.
Of course the sky's the limit when it comes to price. If you can afford to splash out on some hand made wooden castle that fills their entire room then be my guest but you can keep it simple and still delight your child with a little imagination. If you're handyman, or woman, you can easily knock together a simple frame that can sit over their beds and then it doesn't take much more work to add some materiel to complete the effect. The following post have a few ideas that you might want to consider.

Kids Canopy Bedding
This is definitely the best part, in my opinion, of putting a kids canopy bed together. The frame is the frame and to a certain extent the drapes are the drapes. It's so much fun though picking out the bedding for the actual bed. There really is a great deal of choice out there for duvet covers, quilts pillow cases etc. This is an area where I don't mind buying themed products from the shops.
I still look back fondly on my Peanuts cartoon duvet cover. So take your little ones out to the shops or get online and get them what ever little craze they're into at the moment. Obviously if you have a princess theme canopy bed or little space trooper themed bed then get some bedding to match.

Canopy Bed Safety
There aren't many safety issues to consider with a canopy bed compared to say a bunk bed but nevertheless you need to take a moment to consider the structure of your canopy bed before you leave your children alone to play and sleep with them. Unlike bunk beds it needs to be made clear to your children that the can't climb around at all on a canopy bed frame. It's simply not built to take any weight.
If you're buying or making a canopy frame then please also take the time to make sure its securely attached to the floor or the base of the bed. If it's not fastened tightly then it's almost certainly going to get knocked out of position and could also be toppled over fairly easily if a child falls against one of the posts. And finally, an obvious concern really, make sure the frame itself is well build. Just because you've warned your child off climbing on it doesn't mean it won't easily get trashed. Make sure the joints are sturdy.

Canopy Beds for Girls
Certainly it is the little girl in your life who might be fascinated by the idea of a canopy bed. From the moment she first read a fairytale or say a Disney movie they have probably fallen in love with the idea of being a princess and having their own beautiful bed to sleep in. what else would sleeping beauty lay in other than a canopy bed?
Personally I'm not a big fan of the gaudy themed canopy bedding that you can buy online. There is such a wealth of beautiful fabrics out there to choose from that will allow you and your girl to create your own completely unique canopy curtains. Choose the fabric together then make it up into curtains with your sewing machine and you will have something that she will love forever. And what's more she will learn the skills of making something with her own fair hands.

Canopy Beds for Boys
Ok, well I think it's fair to say that when we think of canopy beds we tend to think of girls. A princess canopy bed or flowing white canopy covers are all the domain of girls who like pretty things. Not very manly for a young boy and the sort of thing that could give hi a bit of a complex! Actually though there are probably more imaginative ideas out there for boys then there are for girls. This isn't to say anything against girls and what they like it's merely to point out that boys have lot and lots of different adventures that they like to go on.
Knights of the round table, cowboys and indians, space trooper, soldier, Africa explorer. All these different make believe games lend themselves to canopy beds. Sure go ahead and buy a ready made canopy bed them for boys or get a simple frame and dress it up with you boys input. I'm a big fan of do it yourself because it will bring you and your child closer and is creative.
